“Apollo et Hyacinthus” opera was written by 11-year-old W. A. Mozart for Salzburg University students. An antique myth of Apollo and Hyacinth became the basis for the opera.
The powerful Apollo the god fell in love with Hyacinthus, a son of Spartan king Oebulas. When the king and his children, Hyacinthus and Melia, were making sacrifices for Apollo, Zephyrus the god of West Wind, also makes a declaration of love to the handsome youth Hyacinth. Apollo gets angry and do not accept the sacrifices of the king. Only the entreaties of Hyacinthus could relax the god’s wrath. Conceited Oebulas would like to arrange the marriage between Melia and Apollo. During the sport contest the treacherous Zephyrus, trying to take revenge on Apollo, directs on Hyacinthus the disc shooted by the god. The young boy is wounded to death. Zephyrus blames the Apollo for killing Hyacinthus and asks disconsolate Melia to merry himself. However, the dying Hyacinthus had time to name his killer. Apollo comes back and turns the drops of blood of his beloved one into a beautiful flower.
The quests of the performance are invited into a cosy country theatre of Chekhov times to enjoy the wonderful music of young Mozart.
